The US Department of Transportation reports that more than half of fatal and injury crashes occur at or near intersections. When it comes to any car crash there are usually conflicting accounts of what happened. It is important to have a complete investigation conducted by a third-party expert to examine all factors of the accident, and to start this investigation as soon as possible while the evidence is still fresh. An engineering expert systematically applies science to reconstruct the crash and determine what really occurred.
Every year, the Federal Highway Administration (FHA) reports approximately 2.5 million intersection accidents. 50 percent of serious collisions happen in intersections and 20 percent of fatal collisions occur there.
To understand who’s at fault in these accidents, an engineer would consider multiple factors. This would include a crash scene survey, vehicle damage and EDR data, time and distance calculations, traffic volume, roadway design, tire marks, weather, and conspicuity. The engineer can also access the vehicle’s infotainment system for more data points.
By methodically examining the entire accident, the engineers in CED’s Transportation Group can draw conclusions about who is at fault in a collision. To find out who’s at fault in your accident, contact us or submit a case request online.
